Where are you located?
We are located in the basement of Sugar Shack Donuts at 1932 9th St. NW Washington, DC 20001.

If you have a reservation, speak to the barista at Sugar Shack, and he or she will direct you to the bar.
If you do not have a reservation, please text 240-542-8311 first to see if we have space for you.  Sugar Shack employees are not authorized to admit walk-ins, so please text before attempting to access the bar.

How do I get in?
We accept reservations at 6:00, 6:30, 8:00 and 8:30pm on Wednesday through Saturday, as well as at 10:00 and 10:30pm on Friday and Saturday.  Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis after 10:00pm on Wednesday and Thursday, and after midnight on Friday and Saturday.  Guests without reservations should text 240-542-8311 to inquire about availability or reserve seats for the late night sessions.

What are your hours?
Seatings for our cocktail tasting menu are available Wednesday & Thursday 6:00 - 11, and Friday & Saturday 6:00 - 12. Reservations are recommended but not required. Weekdays, or weekends after midnight are the best times for walk-ins.

How does your menu work?
Pricing for our cocktail flights begins at 3 cocktails for $35 with the option to order more cocktails at diminishing prices afterward as time allows.  Similar to a menu of small plates, all of our cocktails are roughly ¾ the size of a standard cocktail, allowing guests the opportunity to sample many of the wide array of flavors and styles offered on our 30-drink menu.  Flights are not predetermined, but subject to a guest’s individual tastes and preferences.

Do you sell individual cocktails?
No, we do not sell individual cocktails. We ran a brief individual cocktail program over the winter months, which ended in spring.

Do you serve food?
We offer a selection of chef-driven bar snacks to complement our cocktail menu. 

How do I make a reservation?
We accept reservations for parties of up to 5 people on our website.  If you do not see availability for the desired size of your party, please text us at 240-542-8311 - sometimes we may be able to reconfigure the floor plan or offer alternative seating options for your group.

How do I make a reservation for a group larger than 5?
If you are interested in booking a party of 6-9 people, please email us at with the date and time you would like to join us, as well as the size of your group, and we will do everything we can to accommodate your request.  Please be advised we will usually need 1-2 weeks notice to admit a larger group.

What is your cancellation policy?
Reservations may be cancelled up to 24 hours prior through OpenTable.  After that window, please text us at 240-542-8311 if you are unable to honor your reservation.  If we are not informed of the cancellation by 3pm the day of your reservation, or if you do not show for a reservation without notification, you will be assessed a charge of $25 per guest.  
Of course, we will always be sensitive to extenuating circumstances and emergencies, and prefer not to assess the charge if we can avoid it, so please show us the same courtesy and let us know of such situations at your earliest convenience.  

I can’t make my reservation - can I send my friend(s) in my place?
Absolutely, just text us at 240-426-1306 and we will happily change the name on your reservation to reflect the new guests.  If you missed your cancellation window, this is an excellent strategy to avoid incurring the fee.

What if I am running late for my reservations?
If you are late, don’t panic - all of our reservations are for two hours and we will likely still be able to provide you a great experience.  Please text us as soon as you can, and we will do our best to manage our seats to maximize your time with us.

What if there are more/less people in my party than I expected?
If you will be arriving with a party smaller than your reservation, please text us at 240-542-8311 as soon as possible so we can make those seats available for other guests.
If you would like to increase the size of your party, please text us, and we will do everything we can to accommodate your larger group.  If you attempt to expand the size of your reservation with minimal notice and we can not accommodate you, choosing to cancel entirely at that point will still adhere to the aforementioned cancellation policy and a charge will be assessed.

Can I be seated early?
Because of the two hour time limit, we are not always able to accommodate early seatings.  However, guests may finish their experience with us in under two hours, so if you would like to be seated early, please text us at 240-542-8311 and we will let you know if it is possible.

What’s the deal with the time limit?
In order to ensure that other guests are able to come in and enjoy cocktails at their reserved times, we kindly ask that you limit your stay with us to two hours. The time limit is only enforced if there is a party with a reservation coming in after you. If applicable, your server or bartender will let you know when your party is approaching the two hour limit, and will ask if you would like to order any additional items before passing along your bill.

Do you accept walk-ins?
Yes we do!  Earlier in the night, walk-ins are available as space and our reservations that evening allow.  Walk-ins are highly encouraged to join us after 10pm on Wednesday and Thursday, or after midnight on Friday and Saturday when all seats are unreserved and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  All walk-ins are expected to enjoy a flight of cocktails with us - we do not serve individual cocktails.

Can you accommodate non-drinkers?
Of course - we offer flights of three of non-alcoholic cocktails for $20 as an alternative option.  While we might not be able to make ‘virgin’ versions of many of our cocktails, we always have fun ingredients in our refrigerator to titillate the palates of non-drinkers and drinkers alike. 

Is it cool if I take pictures while inside?

Can I request a specific seat?
Although we have four seats not located immediately at the bar, all of our seating is considered “bar seating” through OpenTable.  If you would like to request a specific seat, please do so in your reservation notes, and we will do everything we can to accommodate you.

Where can I park?
Unless you are the designated driver for the evening, we really don't recommend driving here. If you do end up driving, parking on the street is difficult to find, but it is generally unrestricted in the evenings. There is also garage parking at 1415 9th St NW, about a 10-15 minute walk from Nocturne. We do not offer a valet service. 

Where is the closest metro?
The closest metro station is the U St/Cardozo Metro Station on the Green/Yellow line. The station is located just two short blocks from us. 

Do I have to be 21 to enter Nocturne?
Yes. All guests must be 21 years of age and are required to present one form of valid government issued identification upon arrival. 

Can I stage as a bartender at Nocturne?
